All About the H1B Visa

H-1B visas provide temporary work permission in the U.S. — up to 3 years — to certain foreign nationals who hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent.

Type of degree, employer and minimum salary are all required.

There is an annual quota of 65,000 H-1B spots, with an additional 20,000 spots for those who hold a Master’s degree from a U.S. institution. There have been well over 200,000 applicants for the last 5 years. Therefore, there is an annual LOTTERY!!

Important dates: H-1B lottery registration begins March 1st.  H-1B selections are announced by April 1st. H-1B employment begins on October 1st.  For those who hold OPT, you can benefit from cap-gap.
